Austin, TX — Today, at the beginning of the Texas Democratic Party’s general sessions at the 2020 Texas Democratic Convention, a new PPP poll shows Joe Biden and Donald Trump tied in the state of Texas, with 48% of the vote each.
The surveys were conducted June 2 and June 3, making this the first Texas poll since the murder of George Floyd.
Trump’s approval underwater at 46% approve, 50% disapprove in Texas.
Joe Biden with a resounding 97%-1% lead among African American voters.
2016 voter numbers at 50% Trump, 41% Clinton, nailing the spread of Texas in the 2016 Presidential Election.
This is the fourth poll in the last month showing Texas is a neck and neck race.
Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country.
Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Manny Garcia issued the following statement:
“Texans are demanding change. More and more voters are disqualifying Trump as a voting option.
“This most recent Texas poll follows his administration’s anti-democratic gas attacks on peaceful protestors — including clergy — in Lafayette Square, all to score a cynical photo op with Trump holding a bible upside down.
“This poll shows in the starkest terms yet that Texas is neck-and-neck and within grasp for Joe Biden and the Democratic ticket in November.
“Poll after poll shows that Texans increasingly trust Democrats to lead. Across our state, voters understand that Texas Democrats are fighting to keep our families safe, increase access to healthcare, provide responsible leadership in this time of crisis, hold police accountable, and create an economic plan that looks out for working Texans. Texans are looking for leaders who will fight for their fair shot to get ahead. Our time is now.”
